The role

What does a fountain technician do?

A fountain technician keeps water features running for condos, municipalities, commercial sites and private clients. You will be based at our Markham shop and work outdoors at sites across the GTA.

The work spans cleaning and water care, pumps, lights, controls and floating fountains. You will work alongside Scott Bishop, our partner and lead technician, and a team of mechanical, electrical and operations specialists.

The season

What a season looks like.

01

Spring start-ups

Once frost risk passes, fountains are de-watered, cleaned of organics, power washed, safety tested, filled and balanced.

02

Weekly maintenance routes

Through summer you run maintenance routes: debris removal, vacuuming, filter and chemical checks, nozzle de-clogging and visit reports.

03

Fall closings

Systems are drained, and pumps, lights and controls come out. Floating fountains are pulled from ponds and lakes for service.

04

Winter shop work

Motors are serviced and tested in our in-house motor test facility, and equipment is stored in our moisture-controlled facility.

What you will learn

Training on the job.

  • Fountain systems, from basins and nozzles to controls
  • Submersible pumps and filtration
  • Floating fountains, aeration and anchoring
  • Motor service on Kasco and other brands
  • Electrical safety testing before every fill
  • Power washing without damaging waterproofing
  • Portable vacuuming of large reservoirs
  • Writing clear client visit reports

A valid driver’s licence is useful, since the work moves between sites across the GTA.
