What was needed, and what we did.
The City of Toronto wanted to give a fountain of about 100 years a new public home. We dismantled it at the Art Gallery of Ontario and relocated it to Clarence Square. There it sits in a new concrete basin and pool built for the site.
Custom-tint waterproofing protects the new basin, and decorative coping finishes the edge. The fountain is now a meeting place for residents of the neighbourhood.
The work
From gallery to public square.
01
Dismantle with care
We took the historic fountain apart at the Art Gallery of Ontario for the move.
02
Build a new basin
A new concrete basin and pool were built at Clarence Square to receive it.
03
Waterproof the pool
Custom-tint waterproofing seals the new basin and suits the look of the fountain.
04
Finish the edge
Decorative coping completes the basin and frames the fountain.
05
Return it to the public
The relocated fountain now anchors the square as a gathering place.
