What was wrong, and what we did.
The Belfountain was built in the early 1900s and fed by an aquifer. Over time the aquifer supply and the original pipes stopped working, and the fountain went dry. We replaced the water system with new pumps and nozzles, piped in copper to suit the era.
Clifford Restoration restored the stonework while we handled the mechanical work. Engineered pedestals and fibreglass-reinforced grating now keep the public safe around the basin. The fountain is ready for decades more.
The work
How the restoration came together.
01
Find the failure
We confirmed that neither the aquifer supply nor the original pipes could run the fountain any longer.
02
Restore the stone
Clifford Restoration restored the historic stonework, so the structure matches its original character.
03
Pipe in copper
We used copper pipe throughout so the new system keeps the fountain’s early-1900s character.
04
Install pumps and nozzles
New pumps and nozzles replaced the aquifer feed, so the display no longer depends on groundwater.
05
Make it safe
Engineered pedestals and fibreglass-reinforced grating protect visitors around the water.
