Pond & lake aeration
Aeration for ponds that smell, scum or stall.
Surface aerators, aerating fountains and diffused bottom aeration, designed, installed and serviced by our crew.

What does pond aeration actually do?
Pond aeration adds oxygen to the water and keeps it moving. Oxygenated, circulating water helps break down the organic muck on the bottom, and it leaves less still water for algae and mosquitoes. The result is fewer algae blooms, less odour and less muck build-up over time.
We install and service Kasco surface aerators, aerating floating fountains and diffused bottom aeration systems for stormwater ponds, golf courses, campuses and estate ponds.
Two approaches
Surface or diffused aeration?
The right system depends on the pond’s depth, shape and whether you want a visible display.
Surface
Surface aerators and aerating fountains
A floating unit throws water into the air and mixes the upper water. A good fit for shallower ponds, and an aerating fountain adds a display at the same time.
Diffused
Diffused bottom aeration
A shore-mounted compressor pushes air to diffusers on the pond bottom. Rising bubbles lift and circulate the whole water column, which suits deeper ponds and lakes.
Signs you need it
When a pond is asking for air
- Recurring green water or algae mats in summer
- Rotten-egg or swampy odour
- Soft muck building up on the bottom
- Still, stagnant water and mosquitoes
- Complaints from residents near a stormwater pond
- A fountain or aerator that has stopped running
Aeration works on the cause. Many ponds also benefit from a water treatment program alongside it.
Stormwater and golf ponds
Why managed ponds need extra help
Stormwater ponds collect runoff from roads, roofs and lawns, so they receive a steady supply of nutrients and sediment. Golf course and campus ponds pick up fertilizer and grass clippings in much the same way.
Many of these ponds are shallow and sheltered, so the water barely moves in summer heat. Aeration gives that water the oxygen and circulation it is missing.
An aerating fountain also gives residents and golfers something to look at, which helps when a pond sits beside homes or a clubhouse.

How it works
From a problem pond to a working system
01
Look at the pond
We look at its size, depth, shape, where power is available and what problems you are seeing.
02
Recommend a system
Surface aeration, an aerating fountain, diffused aeration, or a combination, sized for the pond.
03
Install
Our crew runs power, sets compressors or floats, places diffusers and anchors surface units.
04
Service
We maintain the system, and our motor shop repairs Kasco and other aerators when they fail.

FAQ
Pond aeration questions
Does aeration get rid of algae?
Aeration reduces the conditions algae thrive on by adding oxygen and circulation. It works best as part of a program with water treatment where needed.
Is a floating fountain the same as an aerator?
A floating fountain aerates the surface while giving you a display. A dedicated surface aerator or diffused system puts more of its work into moving water rather than into the look.
Which is better: surface or diffused aeration?
It depends on the pond. Diffused aeration suits deeper ponds and lakes, while surface units suit shallower water. We recommend after looking at the site.
Can aeration help a stormwater pond?
Yes. Stormwater ponds are often still and nutrient-heavy. Aeration adds oxygen and circulation, which helps with odour, algae and mosquito breeding.
Do you service aerators you didn’t install?
Yes. We fully service Kasco, Aqua Control and Aqua Master, and test and maintain Otterbine, Airolator, AirMax, OASE and Arbrux units. See Kasco and motor service.
Should an aerator run all year?
Surface units and floating fountains usually come out before freeze-up. We remove and service them in fall and reinstall them in spring.
