Stormwater ponds
Stormwater ponds with less algae, odour and muck.
Floating fountains, surface aerators and diffused aeration for stormwater and retention ponds, designed, installed and serviced from our Markham shop.

How do you control algae and odour in a stormwater pond?
Keep the water moving and add oxygen. Aeration increases circulation and dissolved oxygen, which reduces algae, odour, muck build-up and mosquito breeding in still water. Fountain Place designs, installs and services floating fountains, Kasco surface aerators and diffused bottom aeration for stormwater and retention ponds across the GTA.
The right system depends on the pond’s depth, shape, power supply and how visible it is to residents. We size equipment to the pond, then keep it running through the season.
Options
Which aeration suits your pond?
Floating fountains
Aeration residents can see
A spray display that moves surface water and signals a cared-for pond. Lights and timers are optional.
Surface aerators
Mixing without the display
Kasco surface aerators move a large volume of water with a low spray profile.
Diffused aeration
Circulation from the bottom
A shore compressor feeds diffusers on the pond floor, circulating the whole water column quietly.
Water treatment
Support for problem water
Water testing and treatment programs that work alongside aeration.
What we deliver
From sizing to season-long service.
- Equipment selection and sizing for the pond
- Installation with controls, lighting and anchoring options
- Long cable runs tested for leakage
- Upgrades of older units to newer models
- In-season maintenance and repairs
- Fall removal and servicing of floating units
- Kasco motor service at our authorized repair centre
- Weekly reports for ministry submission where needed
We carry products from most major floating fountain manufacturers in North America, including Kasco Marine, Aqua Control and Aqua Master, and can identify and source parts for existing units.
Ontario ponds
What makes Ontario stormwater ponds hard to manage?
Summer heat and still water feed algae, and fall leaf load adds organics that settle as muck. Aeration keeps water circulating through both seasons.
Freeze-thaw is the other risk. Floating units are removed and serviced in fall, then stored over winter in our moisture-controlled facility.
Pond equipment often sits at the end of a long cable run, and leakage on that run can trip the panel’s safety controls. On one long-idle floating fountain we took amperage readings, measured leakage with a milliamp reader, and traced it to a small leak in the quick disconnect. Several electricians and motor shops had tried before us.

Process
How a stormwater pond project runs.
01
Site review
We look at the pond, its power supply, access and how residents see it.
02
Select and size
We recommend floating fountains, surface aerators or diffused aeration, and the controls and lighting to suit.
03
Install and anchor
Units are installed, anchored and wired, with cable runs tested before start-up.
04
Service through the season
Maintenance visits and repairs keep the system running, with reports where required.
05
Fall removal and winter service
Floating units come out, are serviced in our shop and stored until spring.

Reviews
What clients say.
“We sought a floating fountain and underwater lights for our client, and Ryan delivered precisely what our client was desiring. The Fountain Place continues to maintain the fountain, and we have had zero issues.”
“They walked us through the repair process, made some fantastic recommendations, and provided us with a schedule for recommended maintenance.”

FAQ
Stormwater pond questions.
Does aeration reduce mosquitoes?
Moving water discourages mosquito breeding, which prefers still water. Aeration keeps the surface moving along with reducing algae and odour.
Floating fountain or diffused aeration: which is better?
A floating fountain gives a visible display and aerates the upper water. Diffused aeration circulates the whole water column from the bottom and is barely visible. See pond and lake aeration.
Will aeration alone clear algae?
Aeration addresses the conditions algae thrive in, but some ponds also need water testing and treatment. See algae control and water treatment.
What happens to the equipment in winter?
Floating units are removed in fall, serviced in our shop and stored in our moisture-controlled facility. Where open water is needed over winter, we can set up de-icers.
Why does our pond fountain keep tripping the breaker?
Leakage on the long cable run is a common cause; over 5 milliamps trips the panel’s safety controls. We trace leaks with a milliamp reader and repair cables and quick disconnects.
Can you report for ministry submission?
Yes. We provide weekly reports for ministry submission where a site needs them.
